Can some one advise me on my Sick Jeep
Hi everyone,
I am new to this forum. I am based in Ireland, Europe. I have a Cherokee 1998 Sport 2.5 Turbo Diesel. It has caused me nothing but hassle from the day I bought it....
It cost me 4,500 Euros to buy, I have spent 3,000 already. Its a non stop money pit....
I cannot sell it - because even the buyers are scared of it! Plus the recession means no one wants a high tax vehicle.....
I have replaced the front diff, re-wired the dash electrics , that was scary. I have also had two new rear tyres and now it needs a new battery, plus I think the starter is going and the glow plugs are dodgy.
Arrrgggh ......actually some one offered to steal it and burn it out for me - so I could claim on the insurance - but it won't even drive to get it stolen and I am not that dishonest!
Has anyone else got any nightmare stories to share??

Well if it makes you feel any better since I bought mine for 700 dollars I've had to spend another 2300 on parts alone, I did all the work. So glad I can work on it myself or I'd really be screwed.
p.s. wish I had a diesel in mine

Nothing lasts forever. All our Jeeps have needed work and will in the future.
They have been through multiple owners, some of whom didn't have much money or cared enough to fix on them. Just drove them. I recently bought one of those. No telling how much I have in the thing already. But it will be nice when I get it restored--with improvements.
Yours is relatively young. Some of the stuff you are talking about is normal wear items.

Thanks for the words of Support
Hey Guys,
thanks for the words of support and encouragement....
I fitted a Unibull Battery this mornning, and guess what??? The Cherry Started on second go! To wave of blue diesel smoke! Oh my god ...it hasn't moved in 3 months......
Lets see what my wife has to say when she sees it on the drive outside the house...(she will cry).
SickJeep
PS The diesel is not so great interms of power (around 100 -117 BHP depending how badly thrashed). Plenty of torque, and easier on the pocket - but very very noisy!!)
I think you can get a chip or engine re-map thing to improve the power and fuel economy...but I am always sceptical this will mess up the whole thing altogether.....

I like diesels for wheeling. I take my 91 Dodge Cummins wheeling some times and its great, 450ft-lbs torque at very low rpms, I can put it in 1st and just let the clutch out and give it no throttle and its fine.

SickJeep,
I'm also in IRL (in the west, you?) with a '96 diesel. Have had most problems, push rods popping out of rockers, dead camfollowers/hydrolic lifters, non-starting, a cracked head, rear wheel bearings, leaky injectors, oil leaks, new rear pass side axle, nearly went on fire due to dodgy headlight leveller switch, new rear springs, new tyres, HID headlight conversion, rear struts, shocks.. etc ;-)
But, all sorted now and love it! Wouldn't sell it!
