Default Can someone help "decode" this engine?

I purchased a 1996 Jeep Cherokee Sport with the 4.0L, but I'm almost positive the original motor was replaced. It doesn't bother me at all since the motor in the Jeep now runs smooth and there seems to be no issues. I'm just curious on what year Jeep this motor came from...any help??

Think I remember someone posting about a date code stamp on the block in the vacinity of the distributor.

Fan shroud missing? Probably need it come summer time.

If you can find the stamp on the engine on the engine it will tell you everything you need to know about it plus some.
