cant get 89 xj to start:(

Default cant get 89 xj to start:(

i have dash lights but wen u turn the key the starter wont engage at all not a click or anything ive checked just about everything i thought i could be but the starter wont even click wen i turn the key help me it wont it even crank

this is a no crank situation

ive tried making sure that the NSS switch is engaged by moving the shifter back in fourth

You check the starter relay? You can also jump the S wire (marked on the solenoid) to see if your starter is good.

my starter seemed to kick on when i connected the two wire hook ups with a wrench but it didnt shut off right away wen i disconnected it ?

i think my starter was grinding a little bit when it was starting recently

Starter relay is behind (toward the firewall) the battery. It's a rectangle box with a bunch of wires.can't remember if you have to energizing the wire or the post.

Ya. Pretty sure its the wire. If that doesn't work do the post. It's marked s on the relay.

You can do the relay thing or run a wire from the little post on the solenoid to the battery. I had to do that once when my relay went until I got a new one. I put a toggle in the cab.
