You technically should be using a flare nut wrench on the brake line to avoid stripping it. I learned that lesson years ago and got the I told you that son by my dad.

^THAT. Ive twisted apart a line trying to remove it from the cylinder. Fortunately im near a JY but thats a luxury. PB blaster and a proper tools always help. Either the adjusting nut on the line is stuck to the cylinder, or it's stuck to the line itself. The latter will require a new brake line if youre not careful.

Looking at your picture, the problem is the brake adjustment screw. I changed a wheel cylinder last week and couldn't get the screw to move. Your picture shows what looks like a frozen adjustment screw. You should have screwed it way in when you put on the new brake pads (remember it is a left hand screw). Change that adjustment screw and screw it way in, put your hub on then adjust the screw until is barely touches the drum. You'll be fine.

x2..A new adjuster would even better.

Thanks everyone for the replies! I tried to do the other side and had the same issue: drum wouldn't go on at all. I got fed up with it and had a buddy help me get it to the garage just down to road from me. The shoes I ordered were correct but something was off about them. Even the guy at the garage said the looked right but the drums wouldn't fit over them. So he contacted the manufacturer and got them replaced and the new set looked the same but worked fine. So, it wasn't my fault (I ordered the correct shoes for sure) there was just something wrong with them. So, I lost $300 having someone else do it but at least it's done. Thanks again everyone! And I'll respond to everyone down below just because.

That's typical of having the wrong size shoe. Had this happen more times than I can count. The counter guy should have asked what rear end/size drums you have.
I ordered them online and they were listed as being for the 9" drum. The curve was right too. Something was off about them but it wasn't because I had the wrong ones. Manufacturing defect maybe? Oh well.

Yeah. I bought a cheap set from Advance Auto. Got the one side off but the other was too badly rusted and the garage I took it too had to replace that portion of the line.

It was stuck to the line and the brake line was replaced.

I think you're looking at one the response pictures because you can't see the adjuster in the pic I took. The one side was frozen so I bought new ones. When I was attempting to put on the drums, I had the screws all the way in as far as they would go and still no luck. Something was up with the shoes.
