This is true. Lol I think it's kinda funny how people set out to build a rat rod on purpose, we're just kinda trying to make due with the shade tree shop we have. But it's gonna be neat when it's all done.
The only sad part is that this was once such an awesome piece of American history in it's day, and after sitting out in a yard in the Florida humidity, it's really been reduced to a rust bucket.
What we're having to do, since it's a unibody car, is basically build a frame underneath and through the car out of steel tubing, just to keep it from cracking in half and collapsing. Once it's all done it'll be pretty cool though, and I think it'll be able to pull off the whole exposed metal support look with the rat rod theme.

It looks pretty solid on the outside, which is more important than the unibody cause you can fix the underbody and no one will know. Definite rat rod candidate

Right. The main structural problem is those damned A-pillars. They're completely rusted through and the whole front end depends on those for stability. But luckily I got a pretty good welder and enough steel to where I should be able to get her solid again.

I mean we just bought the car monday, so it's still in the disassembly stages.
The difficult part is that neither me or my friend who bought it with me have a whole lot of cash, seeing as how I'm a senior in high school and he's a freshman in college, so we're making due with what we have. One thing we have an abundance of though is tools, mechanical knowledge, and friends who can do just about anything for free.
If we can get a running Cherokee, I think we'll be able to get most of the parts we need from it, including drivetrain and brake system, and whatever else is left, we can give to Joe to finish his Jeep project.
Thanks for all your help, I definitely like the ideas and suggestions y'all are coming up with! Need all the help I can get lol.

A real good, easy to find, easy to work on 2v carb is the Ford 2100-2150 series carbs. As long as the throttle shaft bushings are not wore out they can be rebuilt for around $25 and are about the most basic carb in the world to work on and tune to run perfectly. There are several different CFM's of them. They are marked inside a circle on the left side of the bowl and go in sizes like 1.08 and 1.12 and such. I could find a scale that matches those numbers up to CFM's if you get interested in them or it is easy to find online
My opinion only though so take it with a grain or two of salt.

Carb Conversion 4.0. no more ecm. remove efi
Summit racing makes a gm style HEI for all engines that have a dist. Even a 2000 model 4.0 has a cam sensor oil pump drive that can be replaced with a electronic distributor. lose 1 mpg lose a few hp on highway. gain low end torgue and computer independence. No more sensors. Summit also has the fuel regulator needed so you may continue with your factory pump.
Have no found and adapter yet for the efi base to carb. yet easy to make one gfrom alm or even 3/4 thick plexi glass. I have even made a hose adapter and mounted the 600 holley on a box where the factory filter was and just a 2.5 hose to the intake. Great on a five speed. barrel works well,

X2 on the HEI distributer. DUI also makes one. I have used a dist. out of a late 70s early 80s Chevy straight 6. You just need to use the 4.0 liter dist drive gear. Get one with a vacuum advance.
Here a guy thats working on one.
