Have an 87 renix xj. The previous owner swapped the headliner to the newer type that has the speakers which I’m happy about, however PO didn’t install any cargo or dome lights. I found both lights and wiring at a local junkyard. Working on the wiring and such I decided to remove the keyless entry board from the cargo light and also the wiring that was connected to it. This old renix doesn’t have keyless entry so it’s not needed.

The New Wiring
-Black Wire
-Yellow Wire
-Pink Wire

The Old Wiring
-Black Wire
-Black/White Wire
-Pink Wire (splits into two)

So on the new wiring the pink and black wires split off to the vanity lights, the yellow wire im assuming would connect to the original pink wire and the black to the black.

*Im not sure why the original wiring uses two pinks and two blacks, Im guessing I can eliminate the Blk/Wht but thought id ask here incase anyone knows if its needed

Also on the pillar near the windshield where the wiring is routed ip to the dome Light I have a purple/orange wire that is cut and not connected to anything. Thinking it may be for an overhead counsel or something. If anyone knows what this is for or if a wiring diagram is available It would be greatly appreciated

Up near the windshield there is power for a lighted passenger sun visor mirror.

I don't know if this (attached picture) helps. They are out of a '90. The one on the left is the front with reading lights and the other is the cargo. The front feeds power to the reading lights internally the dome has an off switch. I don't understand why there are SO MANY scam websites advertising they have wiring diagrams. I wasn't able to find the one you are looking for.

Thank you all for the replies, I was able to sort out the wiring. Incase anyone else comes across the same issues, below is how the wiring connects

ground
- black (original harness)
- black (new harness)

always hot
- pink (original harness)
- pink (new harness)

switched ground
- black/white (original harness)
- yellow (new harness)


the newer harness also had a pink wire and a black wire spliced in that split off to the vanity mirrors. I chose to remove these from the harness since I don’t have vanity lights in my visors.

I wasn’t able to figure out the purple/orange wire that also comes along the pillar, but as someone mentioned it might be a power source for the vanity lights (if equipped)
