Yea thats the one I paid 35.00 for....seems to do a good job.I like the one Kyle has because it has front firing speaker and weather band. just trying to save a little money right now. I also have an older model GE that I've had for about 30 years,it's been tuned, but because of it's age I don't want to use it offroad. It's my highway/traveling CB.

i have an old weather radio for the weather so i only use the radio to talk to other friends with cbs and listen to truckers on channel 19. ive even picked up 2 people looking for help on channel 9. just for stalled vehicles though. lot easier than picking up a cell phone and having to dial a friend to talk to them if they are infront of you and have the cb on. my antenna setup cost around $70. ive got the antenna (duh), spring, fold-over and coax..well worth it though and the fold-over is a must for pulling into the garage when i have to work on the jeep and its raining.

The antenna...

Yep... My headliner is saggy... I haven't bothered to pull it out yet.

Sorry, if the antenna pic a bit hard to see.. the house was casting a vicious shadow Its a Wilson 4-foot silver load on an antenna specialists marine grade ball mount.

by the way whowey, did you just use self tapping screws to mount that?

Let me answer all your questions at once...

Its my wheeling jeep... So generally I set the channel and go. Volume is the **** next to the mic connector, squelch is in between the volume **** and the channel adjuster ****. Once you get used to the fact it faces the other way its fine. It is mounted there because of the bottom firing speaker. Makes it much easier to hear when wheeling. The picture doesn't show it well but the front of the radio faces the dashboard. I was standing outside the jeep at the driver's door. The mic cable will hit me in the side of the head on off-camber spots.

You could mount it with self-tappers through the roof supports. But that one is mounted by small machine screws and ny-lock nuts. I didn't want to be crowned by the radio if a self-tapper came loose.

I tend to be a tad rough on things, so I wanted a radio that was as close to bullet-proof and as dirt simple as possible. Radios with lots of bells and whistles belong in the tow rig or in a pavement prowler.

Tell 'em whowey! Kids think that everything has to have multiple bells and whistles to work good. Simple is the key in off roading IMHO.

ive never had the headliner off before and this is gonna sound EXTREMELY noobish, but did you go right through the roof or is there two layers or what?

No... there are four(IIRC) supports that run crosswise below the actual roof skin. They are thick formed sheetmetal. The dome lights and consoles mount to them. The bolts only go through these supports.

ah, and how is the headliner held in? adhesive or what? now i see why you did it that way...i just might have to do this because some of my lady passengers have complained about the radio location..

oh, re-located my antenna today using the passengers side mount and i drilled some new holes

There are at least two different headliner backers..

One is pretty stiff molded foam that is glued in places and is clamped by the trim work running around the top.

The other is a fiberglass-like backing. It is held in the same way. Glue in spots(generally the very center of the roof) and clamped in by the trim work.
