My XJ never had a center console (as far as i'm aware), and I picked up one from a 95 that had the beige interior, but that one was an automatic, and mine is a manual. The boot for the shifter somewhat fits under the console so it doesn’t move around that much, but sometimes it’ll pop up when I go from 4th to 5th.

I’m just wondering how the shifter boot fits into this center console, or are the center consoles different between the manuals and autos?

 

You should have had a hard plastic ring that snapped into the mini console that would have come with your Jeep?
If not this is the piece that you would need.
