I used threadstock and washers on the passenger side with the CAD. I took the seal to the hardware store and found a washer that fit snug on the inside of the metal part of the seal and a couple larger ones to keep it from going in too far. The trick was to get a few nuts onto the threadstock and tighten down all of the washers, the only thing that wasn't firmly fastened was the seal. Then it's just a matter of tightening down the threadstock. On the driverside I used a socket but I think that after you get so many extensions on it, that there is enough flex in the works to effectively get it in straight and then in my case, I had to take a hammer to the socket inside the housing. I think the threadstock would have worked better had I fastened the socket to threadstock so that it couldn't turn or flex.

i think the real cause of your problem is trying to seat both seals at once. Do one side first, then the other side - far less room for error and for uneven pressure on the seal
