Changing gauge cluster...want odometer to read correct miles
I have a 96 Cherokee 4.0 5 speed and I'm changing the gauge cluster from the dummy lights to the full cluster. My miles are around 193,000 and the new cluster only has 73,000 on it. Does anybody know how to wind the odometer up to the correct mileage? On the back of the cluster theres nothing to spin for the odometer. Has anybody done this or know somebody who can? Thanks.

Is it difficult to take apart and put back together? I just don't want to wreck them considering the entire backside of the cluster is that thin silicone electrical contact points or whatever they are. Think I'd be able to get away with just putting the odometer in? I'd like to keep all the red/black gauges.

I just got dont doing that myself and tried to change the odometer readings, and it cannot be done wthout breaking something.
Early model vehicles it was possible to do that but they have put some safe guards on speedometer now, in case of false mileage readings when selling vehicles.
I just keep my old speedo for proof of actual mileage.

I am glad someone has asked about this. I have a 93 and the Speedo, temp, gas and temp does not work. I was wanting to switch it out for the newer style in the 99's. Can that be done?

I would also like to say that if you are changing from a light style gauge setup to a gauge setup you will have to change your temp sender for the gauge cluster and the oil sender to a gauge instead of light senders.
Cost me $25.00 for new senders at autozone.
Now I have a tach, oil, temp, and voltage gauge and they all work great.
Now on I believe it 93 and newer you will need to get the electronic style speedo rather than the cable kind, meaning it is wire operated speedo rather than cable, and the way you check what you have is look at the transfer case or trans where your speed drive is and see if tere is a cable coming out of ther or wires.

I already know about the sending units. I just need to now how to get the miles up.
If your's is a 93 it should be electronic and you can use this gauge cluster swap http://www.jeepin.com/features/gaugeswap/ . It's a good write up and should apply to your jeep. Just remember that when you get the cluster out of the donor car from the junkyard, grab the sending units while you're there. It really easy to do, I just didn't want to install mine until I found a way to make the miles match. Oh well, I guess I'll just have to deal with it.

No I don't think you'd be able to do that because it's completely different. MAYBE if you got the harness from the donor Jeep that connects to the cluster you might be able to figure something out.
