What all do I need to do to change gear ratio to 4.56 if I run 33".

If you currently have stock 3.55 gears, you will need new carriers, ring and pinion set, and master install kits (bearings and seals).

I personally wouldn't put that much money into a turdy-five. I would upgrade your axle first.

Or a Chrysler 29 spline 8.25, or a Ford 8.8

Or a 9 inch, 14 bolt, or dana 60.

If I were you, I would go with a 29 Spline 8.25 (direct swap), or a Ford 8.8 out of a 95+ explorer with disks.

One good thing about the 8.25 in either 27 or 29 spline version is that you do not have to change the carrier to go from 3.55 to 4.56 gears like you will with a D30, D35, or D44.

The 8.8 shouldn't be hard. What vehicle do I look for to ****** a 8.25 out of? And what mods would either one need to fit under a XJ?

You can find the 8.25 under an XJ and it is a direct bolt in. The only thing you will need to change with it is the driveshaft. The 8.25 has a longer pinion than the D35 so the DS is just a little shorter.

Oh Ok so hit the junk yards and look for a XJ with a 8.25 and snag the DS too!! Thanks. I was under the impression that the D35 was a better axle than the 8.25.

A 29 spline 8.25 is alot better, but a 27 spline is better but not that much other than the axle tubes being a bit bigger,if you have time look for a D44.
