Changing main bearings....
with engine still in? Ive been reading through the "oil pressure" threads and seen some of you do it this way, how do you do it? Caps shouldnt be a problem, but how do you change out the other half of the bearing? just curious

when you look at the bearing in the cap you pull of there will be a little knotch in it, the knotch part needs to be the way you bring the bearing out i would turn the crank by the harmonic balancer bolt in the direction that makes the noych come out from under the crank do the reverse to install then install cap move to next . i would do all bearing then torque them down.

When I replaced the mains in my Integra I used a plastic spatula that you can buy for applying auto body filler. I cut it into a 1" wide strip and used it as a punch to knock out the upper half of the bearing. Worked great and the plastic was strong enough to do the job but soft enough to protect the bearing journals.

Thanks, sounds simple enough, for what it is anyway. Hopefully it wont come to that but good to know just in case. Have low oil pressure problem,5-10 at idle and 20-25 at cruising speed and 50 at cold startup.

I didnt figure rod bearings would be as much to deal with as mains since you can actually seperate the rods fromthe crank, whereas you cant seperate the crank from the block while its still in the jeep, nevertheless, they'll all get changed while I'm under there if need be
