changing out a pinion seal?

Default changing out a pinion seal?

So this is my first jeep ever only owned for it day but I love everything about....anyways I need to do a few things to it first up would be the front pinion seal any suggestions on brands? Or is one from Napa going to work the same as any else?

Just take an impact and zip the nut off remove yoke remove seal replace seal install yoke tighten nut enjoy

The nut is the hardest part of the whole process. My impact gun worked nicely but if you don't have one then you might struggle a bit

Ok sweet ill have to tackle that this week do I need a special tool to remove or replace the seal?

Seal drivers or a big enough socket so that the flange of the seal is driven in evenly but if u are careful u can use just a small hammer

And for taking it out could I simply use a screw driver to pry it out or do you have a less addresive solution?

When the pinion bearings fail, they usually wipe out the seal.

Its a 99 and the bearings are fine just the seal leaking a little I just want to fix it so.it doesn't get worst

yup, just pull the nut and the yoke should just slide off. then i used a seal puller to pry out the old seal, then just pop the new one in with a plastic mallet so you don't dent the seal ring. then i used an electric impact to drive the nut home to like 220lb/ft if i recall.

there are 2 different seals listed for the d30, so best to grab both and return the one you don't need.
