Stand outside in front of drivers door and look at the bottom of the windshield on the dash all american cars have the VIN number there. Some of the older corvettes had them on the windshield pillar.

It should also be on a sticker/decal with the tire information attached to the drivers door inside the jamb area by the striker/latch.

thanks to all but I am looking for the security chassis number which should be on the chassis some were on some vehicles it is marked into the chassis behind a wheel ie front back wheel the local vehicle inspection agency here in Portugal have to see this before they pass the vehicle so anyone help please

well I thought I was on the proper site to get the info needed but what a load of wally's you lot are it is under the plastic trim on the pasengers door ASK THE EXPERTS OR WHAT.

a frame number on a door... hmmm guess what IDIOT, if you live in a freakin country where they are so dumb to stamp a frame number on a DOOR then you deserve to have it stolen and changed the door so you will not have any problems of inspection at all. WORD OF EXPERT.

The locations might be different for US sold and those sold elsewhere. Mine does have a ID plate next to the hood hinge on the firewall, nothing in the wheel well. I remember seeing a number stamped into the body, just not where.

By the way did you say 2004 model. If so this is the wrong site as the XJ stopped in 2001, you either have a Grand Cherokee or Liberty (Cherokee in Europe).
