Cherokee Runs weird
So a few weeks ago I bought a 98 Cherokee Sport, 260000Kms(I live in Canada) I have put it on my old mans code reader and this is what it gave me P1281, p0132 p0135 p0141 p0138, i know the last 4 are o2 sensors which i am getting when i get paid, and the other one is engine staying cold to long, although temo gauge says its fine, i have a baby on the way here in a few days so i need to fix this asap cause her and the mother are live 45 mins away and ill need to travel to see her and my gf until we get a place. any how i just need to know if the engine staying cold to long would make a rough idle, and when cooler out doors act as if there was something wrong with the tranny, although its not the tranny, the revs fall when stopping or just barley moving, also i have cleaned the throttle body and the iac and tps and map sensor, plugs wires plugs and distributor also replaced, Now i did read that torx screws in the computer were to long and hit the curict board and did something to screw up but i took them screws or put washers behind them and still no change (todays a cool day no higher the 18 not sure what temp that is for the non canadians but it was acting up all day now it is cooler tonight its even worse, i also took the washers out of them screws to, i dont have and vaccum leaks, I may be only 21 but im not dumb when it comes to this stuff well at least to whats causing this issue, im stumped. both o2 sensors are going to be replaced by the end of the month and if its the engine coolant temp sensor causing my bad running in the cool weather any how any help is greatly apreciated.

Staying cold too long could be a stuck thermostat they are designed to fail open which means they make your cooling system run always which far extends your warm uptime especially in cold weather. Bad O2 sensors can make the car run poorly and get bad gas mileage because it causes an improper fuel/air mix. Could also be another sensor, but I'd start with what you know needs to be replaced and then rule out the other possibilities...

Ok so made a trip to napa, got 2 o2 sensors ngk ones and from what I hear they are the best, I also got a coolant temp sensor napa brand, a thermostat a jug of antifreeze, the tool to take the oe sensors out and the gasket for the thermostat, which is 195 degrees too, I paid just under 300 bucks and got employee discount on everything is that good pricing for what I got?

Thats about right for our neck of the woods, I have a 98 as well and had some running issues, performed a complete tune up, cleand the throttlebody, and replaced the o2 sensors. It runs like a champ, zero issues, just like new lol.
Good luck!

well im gonna replace them here in a bit, i also just for the sake of doing so cause i know some jeep owners love sea foam bought a can of that aswell, kinda disapointed that the socket for o2 sensors are like 25 bucks, oh i also noticed that when driving down the road the rpms fall fairly fast, before i took the computer out i thought that the fell a little slower then that but maybe im just a little paranoid lol, and what is the normal rpm when at idle, ill let you all know how i make out. where i took the computer out to put washers behind the screws it wiped off the check engine light so should i just unplug the computer once i replace the sensors and thermostat?

Just disconnect the batt positive and negative terminals and touch them together, this is a "capacitive" discharge, this will clear the pcm adaptive memory. Idle rpm 650 +- 50 rpm with the ac off and in park/neutral.

So I have everything changed and well if it wasn't my luck I cracked my thermostat housing so I not have to go to the junk yard once my lazy *** father gets up cause I need my jeep for work tomorrow. Rpm seems to be normal around the 650 range.

How do I fix or attempt to fix that. Also still hitching and bucking a bit not as bad but still is, could my egr valve be getting stuck open? Or what not any help will be greatly appreciated. Thanks

you don't have an EGR valve.
P0135 is for the upstream o2 sensor - check the wiring to the sensor. You may have gotten a bad sensor.

So I'm quite sure I have everything fixed. Turns out I had a blown fuse under the hood. So far so good. And no death wobble changed a track bar in less then an hour in the drive way too lol. Lift kit soon I do believe.

If you are getting weird codes check the ground strap at the back and make sure it is clean and attached well. Check the grounding cable on the battery. Sometimes the battery will work but it does not seem to be grounding well - replace the battery.
Original owner 1996 XJ - 14 years and 190k miles - never replaced an O2 sensor. It has always been a grounding issue.
