Salad I've yet to pull the plugs, I spaced on checking those. The old ones I pulled out when I first got it were blacker than the ace of spades. Tomorrow I'll go ahead pull them all tomorrow and check them. If they aren't all fouled it would be an indication that the fuel injectors on those cylinders are sticking open or something correct? I've been meaning to do the 703 upgrade regardless I just haven't got around to it yet. Thanks for the help as always.

Yeah in theory. Running so rich as to cause it to be that cold is kinda crazy. I don't know how likely that is, but that'd be a good symptom to treat!

The woman I bought this Jeep from actually bought a full size lifted Blazer because she said it got better gas mileage. At the time I laughed the statement off, I'm not laughing now. The weird thing is that it seems to run well, in fact you could say it runs almost like a sexually assaulted primate.

I don't know how many times I can say this or how many different ways, but if your thermostat is closed (as it should be before your engine reaches proper operating temperature) coolant doesn't flow through your radiator. So what good is putting cardboard in front of it going to do? Absolutely NONE.

Some of you need a few classes at your local vocational technical college instead of depending on what Joe Bob taught your Dad 40 years ago.

I am out of this thread. Ya'll put some cardboard in front of those radiators and enjoy. You'll look cool just like the truckers. Don't forget those stinger bumpers and LED light bars too.

Hell. Even a gasoline car will have issues when it gets really cold. Just because the thermostat is closed doesn't mean flow stops. Yes it slows but it still moves some.

I have. What does this have to do with a 4.0 in an XJ?

11 degrees here the other morning, and my XJ got right up to temperature with no cardboard. Amazing!

No. When the thermostat is closed coolant only flows through the heater core, not enough to keep the engine cool.

Your right its not enough under normal circumstances but there is still coolant flowing.

I wouldn't call 11* really cold. I was thinking closer to -15 or so.

Smaller engines will do this. One night when I still had my Tercel and it was -30 out I decided to go for a spin. Couldn't put the heater fan over 1 if I wanted to maintain heat.

Smaller engine cars might but I doubt a 4 liter 6 cylinder engine isn't gonna produce enough heat.

Yes, that's why I've said that the 4.0L is a hot engine and qualified my statement with "small car" and "Tercel"...

Had any time to look at the issue, ThatDude?

I was just informed by my manager that instead of getting off at 6 I'll be working till midnight. I guess it'll have to wait until Saturday morning, sorry about that Salad but I guess as we all know, work bureaucracy is hell.
