I've had two XJ's on 235/75/15's and stock suspension and they fit just fine and look pretty good. I did notice the speedometer was off a little bit

Full squat

They will be in the neighborhood of 30" tall by 10" wide. I ran some 30/9.5/15 on a 1994. In order to have a decent turning radius I had to put them on a rim with no back spacing. I should have trimmed fenders as well because the body contacted the tires more than once.

Depending on your wheel plans, it can be done and you may like it, but the most expensive things in life start as free items so beware a 'good deal'.

The 215-75-15 were the base model tire size, and the 225-75-15 was used on alloy wheels. My '96 had the 225-75-15s and were replaced with 235-75-15s with absolutely no issue.

215-75-15 should be 27.7" tall
225-75-15 should be 28.3" tall
235-70-15 should be 27.95" tall
235-75-15 should be 28.9" tall
255-70-16 should be 30" tall

With the flat torqe curve and stock gearing, the 4.0l may well do OK with even taller, wider tires, but will affect clearance and speedo. You'll also need wider rims.

My '96 had Goodyear Wranglers as OEM. I knew a guy who was the service manager at a Goodyear store wo told me the Wranglers were junk and wouldn't last. I replaced them at 52K with BFG Touring TAs 235-70-15, and they lasted about the same. To be honest I don't remember what the 3rd set was, but they went about 50K, and the latest set is 235-75-15 Wranglers. I think my local guy charged me $75 each about a year ago. This Cherokee WAS my wife's daily driver until September 2005, and then it just became the spare vehicle.

On my 1999 cherokee classic i had 30 9.5 15s no rubbing or trimming. Then i put 31 10.5 15s it was stock with minor rubbing on lower control arms at full turn but nothing to worry about. Full flexed no rubbing in the front but the back would hit the bumper cap but not bad enough to do anything. if i can find some pictures with the 30s and 31s on it when it was stock ill post them up.

my 2000 XJ came with 215s. We replaced them with the expensive Michelin LTX at 50k. Now at about 83k and the Michelins still look brand new. I'm cheap - I'd have never sprung for those tires, but my son did. They seem to be worth it for longevity and performance, about $600 for the set.

The best part is that Difinity's are made by Cooper Tires and Peop Boys does Buy 3, Get 4th FREE!
My 2001 Limited came with 225/70/R16's... I have no suspension lift - it is completely stock in every way including suspension.

Would I be able to fit 235/75/R16's in stock trim without lifting suspension? Total height/diameter for that size would be just a hair below 30" [29.87"].. width would be 9.25

I don't plan on any hardcore 4-wheeling, my reasons are purely aesthetic.

Thanks guys!
