Default cherokees aren't meant for Drifting!!

i was leaving work last friday, it was raining and there was no one on the road so i decided to try drifting since the ground was nice and wet. obviously a poor decision. i held the drift a little to long ended up doing a 180 across 2 lanes and slammed drivers side into the curb completely sideways. i got out looked saw a little ding in the rim but everything appeared ok. once i hit 50mph my steering wheel started to shake. i stayed at 45 the rest of the way home. the next morning took a look at it and noticed i bent the tie rod. i had a friend watch me drive it down the road and he said my drivers side wheels were wobbling pretty bad. i looked around a little bit and realized i bent the front and rear outer axle on the left. the parts were around $350 including shipping. they just came in today and im doing all thee repairs this weekend... its a good thing friday was payday!

X2 on the snow. Big light post free parking lots are your friend. I tried to drift my Jeep leaving work one day in a similar situation, a set of double S's going up a slight hill. Made it through the first two bends textbook, then my Aw4 decided to kick from banging the limiter in 2nd to banging the limiter in 3rd and I did a full 360. First did a full 180 so fast it scared the wee outta me, had enough presence of mind to throw it in reverse to straighten it out and whipped a J turn (thank you parking lot snow practice) and drove off nice and calm as to not attract any attention from the people in the houses. I get up and over a little knoll right after the S's and there sits a State cop. Needless to say until I could no longer see him in my rearview I was ****ing a brick. Had a lot more power than I expected. And this was back when it was fully stock. I learned drifting works best with shifter in selected gear and not D.... Now I save shenanigans for empty lots and the mud.

Well your not done yet. There is still the cost of the alignment after replacing the tie rods. You came out of this luckly with only $350 damage. You could have easily added another $1000 for bent rims, especially if you had aluminum, blown both tires (replacing with 4 new matching tires) and ended up doing another 180 from the passenger side to drivers side. Jeeps are high centered vehicles. Your new words would have been "I had a Jeep". Not to mention the ribbing you would have to put up with from your other 4x4 buddies.

ya alignments around 60$ its a good thing im doin repairs on my own otherwise this would be well over $1500. its a good thing i didnt buy my new rims yet i would have been so much more p!$$3d off. but i cant be that mad because it was my choice.

I had been messing around in snow/ rain/ mud/ gravel/ any loose slippery surface I could find in a safe area in 2 and 4wd. Just didn't expect the stock motor to have that much *****... But she's got more now so I don't dare do anything on the roads. Lucky you can save a lot of $$ by doing the work yourself. Parts are never what get ya, it's the dang labor.

Snow still can end up in a bad ending. I was turning into a parking lot this past winter and held the gas a titch too long and spun her face first into a tree. The tree was fine but i hit it smack dab on one of those two little cushions that stick out on the front bumper. It also bent my main steel bumper underneath. So now my tire rubs on her when i crank it too far to the left. Live to learn, learn to live

firt time i drove my k5blazer in the rain i spun. apparently it had a limited slip in the rear and i did not know. that was a fun ride. but yeah this kinda stuff can be dangerous just be careful and try to play in a large open area with no other cars and you will be ok

x2 on everything. in my old FWD sebring i would always yank the e-brake in the winter and found some black ice by accident and bent a rear control arm..sold it that way too. wasnt bad tho. have yet to have any bad drifting in the xj yet..RWD is so much easier to control. did hit a curb and put a little bump on the sidewall of one of my old 29" tires..thats it so far and that was a little love tap. only drifting ive done since was in the mud on my old bald 33s in dresser. but yeah, jeeps and drifting dont go togeher well

I bent the frame and destroyed the rim, tire, and steer knuckle on a 91 Toyota 4x4 I had by sliding sideways into a curb. I fixed everything but the frame. That truck would do left hand turns whenever I let go of the wheel!
