ill never understand swapping another vehicles motor, tranny, xfer case, and axles into something else... may as well just build the truck you got them from!!! talk about wasted money... one thing or another then yeah... but not everything... thats stupid...

put it this way... u have a jeep which is very capable. you have a chevy. which has very capable parts. you put the very capable parts in a already capable jeep and you get a super capable rig !!!!

so your saying a chevy body and frame is more capable then a XJ body and "frame"? yeah... not trying to dog you or anything boss but that doesnt make any sense to me at all... not only is a unibody weaker then a frame and harder to work with but the body has nothing to do with how a vehicle performs in the first place... hints buggies...
what makes a vehicle offroad capable is the drivetrain... so if a drivetrain is under one vehicle then there is no point in swapping all of it to another vehicle... unless your doing it just to look cool... but still a waste of money... may as well just build the chevy and spend the wasted money on some cool mods to it...
again... im not trying to hate on you or anything if you did it... in fact i would probly think it was cool... but no way i would ever do it... kinda like these 14 foot tall show trucks... just cool... wasted money...

yea but the shorter wheel base with the upgraded drive train parts is the ticket. and its not costing me much at all because i have a bunch of chevy trucks laying around on a farm that are free

dont forget the full tune up you should do first... plugs... wires... water pump... rear main seal... antifreeze... i would even install a new oil pump... oil pan gasket seal... oil... same kinda stuff on the tranny/xfer case/axles... since they all have been sitting.... brakes... i see running I6's on craigslist all day long for $200... that i would do the same with also of course but still cheaper then going through everything else... mid 70's chevy c10 wheel base is 117.5in...cherokee is... 101in... cherokees roughly 16in or so shorter... which can be a good bit but in that case you may as well buy a samuri and stick all this under it to get even shorter... shorters not always better... so that doesnt do it for me either... still not worth it to me... but ill leave ya alone man... just wanted to make sure your thinkin of it all... goodluck!!!

It is a lot of work. If you use a chevy tranny, you will need to adapt the tranny to the Jeep tcase or use the chevy tcase. Either way, you will have to make a custom cross member since no one makes one. You will need to use the standard exhaust manifolds, clutch will have to be hydraulic, and you will undoubtedly need to change master cylinders. Forget your console also, unless you are really good with linkage. Tcase linkage will have to be modified, custom radiator obtained, mine cost $700 from Griffin, custom shroud and fans, another $250, drive shafts $200 - 500 apiece. It won't be as cheap as you think, not to mention throttle linkage and a host of little things like that. Cooling is a real issue with a V anything due to poor air flow in the engine bay. It is not nearly as simple as everyone thinks.

Novak sells all of that. radiator, a thing to fix the linkage, headers, and trans to t-case adapter. not sayin it will be cheap, but definately cheaper than all custom.
also someone earlier mentioned using an LS motor. i would personally stay away from an LS due to the fact its aluminum. for wheelin, cast iron is the way to go. the reason being that when wheelin the motor gets real hot, then goes through water and mud. well real hot aluminum block, then going through water the block will warp. seen it happen.
