Child Seat Tether's no longer installed?
So I need to finally install a forward facing seat in my XJ, and called my local dealer about having the Tether Anchor's installed. After 3 different advisers transferred me, one finally said Jeep no longer recommends and installs the Tethers due to complications.
Anyone else had this issue? Did you just install a forward facing seat with just the center lap belt?

yes, I have had this issue (My son is 4, my daughter is 2)
I attach the over the seat to a cargo hook, and then use the seat belt locking clip that comes with the seat to lock the over the shoulder down as a lap belt. I find the hardest thing to deal with is the doors are small and getting the kid in is not easy (easier than the rear facing kid bucket).

Sine the XJ was discontinued in 2001, none left the factory with the anchor. Possible liability issues with an untested dealer-installed anchor was probably why they don't do it any more.
Just use the center rear lap belt. That seat isn't going anywhere.

I recently had the dealer here in Canada install a rear tether anchor. They complained about troubles getting the part and tried to get me to pay but Chrysler will pay them for the part and install time to get it done.
I'm not sure if this applies to your newer XJ, as mine is a 1993.

I will get you a photo later today.
For now here is this. Bring the TSB # to your dealer and tell them to install the anchor(s).

DISCUSSION:
User-ready child restraint tether strap anchors will be provided in passenger cars in the
2000 Model Year, and in light trucks in the 2001 Model Year and later. Tether straps
improve the performance of child restraints in collisions. Because of the publicity that has
accompanied the "Fit for a Kid" Program, owners of earlier products are expected to
approach dealers for the free provision and installation of the anchor hardware.
Chrysler is offering child seat tether anchors for the selected vehicles listed above. Each
tether anchor is packaged in a kit containing all necessary parts and a detailed instruction
sheet.
NOTE: This bulletin is provided to identify the parts and labor operation numbers
necessary to install a Child Seat Tether Anchor. Each dealer is encouraged to
install these kits based on customer request and Chrysler will reimburse any
Chrysler / Dodge / or Jeep dealer installing these kits regardless of vehicle
age or mileage.

I can get more if you need, I already had this photo uploaded from before. It's in the rear left corner, just behind the spare tire. There is a larger washer that goes underneath the body and a rubber piece the same size as the washer to help seal it off. I found the bolt, washer and nut rusted quite quickly underneath the Jeep.

I talked to my contact for my local dealer, I'm going to call the service writer tomorrow about it or maybe next week

I had to escalate it to the north american Jeep customer service hotline, who then called the local dealer and told them they were obligated to install the anchor for free. Then I got a call back from the general manager of the dealer to set up my appointment time.

Being in retail and parts related business on the side and full time in the past I can't imagine not wanting to do it, yes warranty work doesn't pay as well but it's going to be paid

Also, if seat is not securely attached it can slide around when offroad which will place shoulder belt in awkward positions.
If you meant to clip seats tethers onto center belt, that I have done. Other clip attaches to bracket that attaches seatback to chassis. Rear tether also attaches to seatback bracket.
There should be two additional locations under seat, near or on seatbelt mounts.
