Not knockin it, I'm runnin an 01 8.25 in my 91 now. Of course the only reason I went through the trouble of changing the rearend is the 8.25 was free and I don't have the Dana turdyfive anymore.

i've got a question about the 8.25. i've got one in my 92 loredo. now i dont know much about limited slips but if you dont have a lsd and you did a slight burnout coming out of the yard the other day (dont know who did that) but wouldnt it only leave one spin mark on the grass if it didn't have lsd? becuase mine def left two full tire marks on the ground. they were both the same length and they were both deep so it wasn't just one tire spinning and the other dragging across the ground. wtf is goin on there? hmmmm........

my question is this....did the 8.25 ever come with an LSD from the factory?

you can throw money at a d35 and make it stronger also, big deal. i ran a d 35 open on 33's and never broke a thing. it also depends who's behind the wheel. all i'm saying is its rare to see one in a junk yard and think...ooooh, i want it.

Exactly! Hell ive seen a guy with a Super35, ARB, and 4.88's runnin 38.5" IROKS and he's never broken any thing...of course his wheeling style differs a bit from mine. I bombed 2 D35's open on 32's and an 8.25 open on 33's(split the carrier and shot it through the diff cover). Now ive got the 8.8 with 35's and so far its held up to everything ive thrown at it.

So I do not own a jeep. But my Dakota has the 8.25 with factory lsd in it now currently a locked rear end and I run 4.56 gears in it with 35/13 tires. And my Dakota if fully armored all the way around under and over, sides and front and rear. Weighs about 6500 LBS and I have never broke the 8.25 and I take it up and down mountains every week

I have a late production 1996 that came with the 29 spline 8.25 axle even though all tech information states it has a 27 spline. I understand that the factory started using the 29 spline as the 27 splines were out of inventory towards the end of the production run. I think the only way to find out what is in your 96 is to open the axle housing and count the splines on the axle.
