the JY. lol.
You will need a new Ring and pinion and the crush washers and then you will need alot of marking paint, alot of time and patience to do gear installs...
and a feeler gauge and a torque wrench (non click style)

you could get a R&P from the JY as long as it was in good condition. Like i said you just need new Crush washer for the pinion. And a master instal kit. ($30 -$80).
a feeler gauge is for installing the gears. you need certain backlash as well as other tolerances have to be met.

Yes do to the Preload. And if you set to much pre load then you need to get a new crush washer and start over... However once that is done then you need to set your gear contact patch. Which is where time comes into play. sometimes you can just drop it in and its perfect other times it may take a few tries. I have seen someone remove/insta gears 10 times on a single axle before it was perfect. It is not that hard as long as you take your time You just need to be patient with it
