Climate control switch
2000 XJ heat is not working. Recently the cold/hot adjustment switch would continue to stay in max heat as I would turn the temp down to a cooler setting. I would have to actuate the switch through the whole range of motion from hot to cold and back to a position in between for the heat to turn down some. I figured the switch would eventually fail and I would replace it. Well it did quit working no heat with everything else functioning as it should even the AC. I replaced the whole assembly fan speed switch, the vacuum control switch, and the climate control switch as I had a spare in a parts Jeep. I was able to get it to work one time and it stopped again no heat but everything else still working. I don’t know what to look for next.

Did you check the blend door to see if it works? The blend door is under the dash just to the left of the glove box and to the right of the transmission hump. If you are limber, you can put your finger on it and turn the temperature **** and feel it move. If it doesn't move, the door motor needs attention. You can buy one from a parts store, or you can take yours apart. If you want to fix it, take it apart and clean out the old grease, re-grease and apply 12 volts to it to make sure it will move before you reinstall it.

If the motor works, it may be the blend door itself/

Glad we could help! Enjoy the heat!
I had to replace mine around October. I picked one up from Oreilly but then took the old one apart and found it was only stopped due to the dried up silicone grease.
Cleaned and replaced the grease and put it in my spare parts box in case the new one ever acts up!

Sounds like I have a little project to jump into now as well. Also going to do a reverse heater core flush. I know for a fact the system was taken carte of as far as coolant changes and flushes, but apparently a reverse flush was never done by the PO because the heat in my XJ isn't so great. It gets just warm enough to not be freezing on my way to work.... On the real cold days we just had, I fogged the windows up just from breathing and it essentially froze on the inside and I couldnt see out my side windows. At least the defroster worked to get 60% of my windshield clear..... I felt like Ace Ventura driving with a windshield I couldnt see through, except I was leaning to the inside so I could see under the frost on the windshield....

I've had consumers complain about the aluminum heaters that you find in the local parts stores. Not sure that is related to your issue, but if you end up ripping it out may want to look @ the copper version. They seem to do a better job with heat transfer.

Old fart with a wrench
One other thing about a copper/brass heater core. Leaks can be fixed with a soldering iron. I bought an aluminum core from Rockauto and the tube connection on one of the pipes was cracked in shipping. I got a refund and my mechanic found me a copper one. Lucky we found it before it was installed. Not a dumb guy! He tested it before we ripped the dash out.

Yep. worst case scenario to rip apart the vehicle put in the heater and then see it leaks.
lesson we should all remember = test our parts before installing.
I pressure test pretty much everything for my heat/cooling system before I get into it.
