Well, I got started taking the thing apart. Yep flare head wrench is needed. I tried regular wrench but stopped before stripping the bolt. Anyone know what size that is?

I called napa, they don't have it in stock but It will be there tomorrow. 65$ plus fluid, plus a wrench. Hopefully I won't have to pay a cab to take me there.

had the same issue on my 85, clutch only had about 3000 miles on it, motor snapped a the crank, i replaced the motor, clutch didnt work so i replaced the master and slave, bled the lines old school and with a pump... never worked agian. i just parked it behind the fence and use it for parts now. granted i only spent 400 on it it wasnt a huge loss. (besides all the new parts i had invested)

sounds like yours is just a leak somewhere if it slowly went out, replace the slave and you should be good

Yeah, I hope so, crossing my fingers....Its my daily driver so I am kind of freaking out lol.

That one bolt holding the old metal hose on there scares the crap out of me lol.

If It were not for that bolt on the metal hose (and not having the part yet) I would already be done.

That brings up another question. That old metal hose for the fluid, can that be replaced with something else? I feel like I just want to cut it right off, bend it out of the way so I can get to that top bolt holding it to the firewall.

Any ideas on this? If I round off those corners and can't get the nut off there can I just cut and replace?

One more question on this. I read on another thread where someone else had a similar problem with clutch and the suggestion was to bleed the line. Is it possible that I do not have to buy a new master cyl and just bleed mine out? The speed at witch my clutch quit working was pretty quick. Over the course of maybe an hour. Right now the clutch pedal is able to be pressed all the way to the floor with no response.

I was actually going to try bleeding it first but the one place I can walk to for tools is K mart....so yeah they don't have brake fluid plenty of oil but no brake fluid lol.

Would you try bleeding the line first before buying a new master cyl?

no... it wouldnt have died that fast if there wasnt a problem... also you will have a crap load of fluid everywhere if it actually leaked away somewhere...

Ah I see, thanks for the info...I just didnt want to spend 65$ for the master cyl when all it needed was a good fresh bleed/fill.

Well I finally got the part, and the wrenches (9 - 14 mm 22$) and some dot 3

~$100 later I can try swapping it out. Hopefully this will solve the problem

First time doing this wish me luck lol.

I don't know what year you have but on mine I just slid under there, looked up, you should see a line coming down from the engine bay area (mine is metal and silver so pretty easy to see) I just followed it to where it came to a bleeder valve (looks like a small size hex nut with a nipple on the end)

If I had a camera I would go take a picture.
