I'm pretty sure you would have real trouble with the electronics with an auto.

Like I mentioned (in that long, rambling post), I might disassemble and clean the master cylinder if it were me. Something clogged might have it sucking air in past it's ring. Or try my luck at the JY since all else is new.

I did it 4 times but I will definitely vacuum bleed it tomorrow and then try doing it 4 times again if it loses pressure again.

I actually think that it may have to do with the small rubber o-ring at the front of the fluid hose going into the master cylinder. I had trouble with it keeping fluid from coming out at first so I think that it may be the real cause here. Or the hose coming from the outside of the transmission and slave cylinder to the main master cylinder line. I had to disconnect it to drop the transmission and used a quickly made up tool to do so, so maybe I should try replacing that. As I mentioned above, I'm going to try gravity bleeding, and then vacuum bleeding it along with the pumping to see what happens. I'll decide where to go from there.

I really appreciate all the help guys. I've had to take the dreaded public transport because my dd is down.

Well cool! (I guess). An O ring beats alot of alternatives. Was thinking it sounded like it's sucking air in somewhere.

I've never dealt with one...but I've seen posts of guys having real headaches with that line, it seems nothing common matches it. Never put anything on an O ring, except lube, (brake fluid in this case)

Yeah it's just a ridiculously small rubber piece at the end of the line that keeps air and fluid from leaking out. I think maybe its too loose and needs to be replaced again.

Also does anyone know if there are any other o-rings farther down the line closer to the slave cylinder? I'm not sure if that's the problem but any ideas and tips will help! I won't give up on the little xj

Well nothing worked. I got so mad at it and threw the old slave cylinder at the jeep. At least that thing would work. I'm thinking about just scrapping the whole thing and getting a 97+ with an auto cause I'm tired of wasting money on dead end solutions on this jeep

About 35 years ago I spent parts of three days on one bolt. I got so mad I threw my vice-grips at a (three foot wide), Redwood tree six feet in front of me. I missed and they went about 35' through the back window if my Fiat!

Maybe a JY Master, and line all the way to the trans?

I almost threw a hammer at the lift gate. If anyone asks it was to test the durability of the fiberglass gate from xj's pre 97. I'm thinking about just buying a line from jeep since apparently that's the only place that you can get them and there aren't any Cherokees in the JY's around here unfortunately. Its also going to a transmission shop tomorrow because the guy who runs the place is a good friend and has been wanting to check it out
