Hey sorry for resurrecting an old thread but this is exactly what's wrong with my Cherokee. Been trying to diagnose everything and test is the way it was said in the thread and I'm getting all good readings but I still can't figure out what's wrong. Only difference I have that may effect it is that my airbags previously deployed and I haven't replaced them yet I just cut them out so could that be tripping my p1648 code?

What year is this XJ?

Why were the airbags deployed?

The 1694/1698 codes are a CCD Bus communication issue, possibly caused by a CCD Bus companion module. The Air Bag Control Module is a companion module on the CCD Bus. If there is a problem with the ABCM it could cause a communication problem with the CCD Bus.

Think you should address you air bag issue?

Just wanted to thank you all for this thread and especially CCKen who is sharing his experience I assume as an experienced Technician. You have helped get my ride back on the road.

I have a 2000 XJ with a stroker and was upgrading to a Walbro fuel pump. Got it back together and ran fine for 20 min so I headed out for a test drive and it died. Would crank but not run, ASD relay buzzing and NOBUS on display. Checked some things replaced a fuse in PDC don't recall which- no change. Unplugged crank position sensor as well as others on the Bus to troubleshoot the NOBUS. There was no changed so I assumed a harness issue. Left it for a few months and got back at it today. Checked power, fuses and grounds. found F22 blown in PDC, replaced it and bus was back up. Went to read codes and my scanner would keep restarting so I knew the bus issue wasn't rectified. I was able to read P122 and P1694. The latter wasn't in my Powertrain manual and Google brought me here. After some time with the meter I found my TCM bad, swapped in a spare and it runs and P122 is inactive. I don't have enough drive cycles to know if this repair is complete but wanted to thank you for the assistance!

Do you know of a source for the engine harness? That would be my rigs week point at 200000 miles. Painless doesn't do the later Jeeps and it's discontinued by Jeep.

Default Intermittent P0640, P1694 and no start.

Good evening CCKen! I have been following three threads regarding BUS issues and No Start issues. My 01 XJ Sport had intermittent P0340 and P1694 codes that eventually became permanent. I have got the codes to go away and the keep starts and runs now, but it has a slight miss ans the transmission isn’t shifting right now. I’ve checked the voltage and continuity at most of the modules you have provided guidance on. I have the required voltages at the PCM, TCM, and DLC. I have low intermittent voltage at the instrument cluster, overhead board for keyless entry, and the plug for the SKIM (no SKIM though). I’m not sure what to do next. I noticed more than one twisted pair go into a large plug just below and to the right of the TCM. Should that be the next step?
