Cold-start ether spray = slow acceleration?
Hey all. Did some much needed stuff with the Jeep ('90 RENIX) the other day. Four new A/S tires, oil change, f/r diff fluid change, fuel filter, Seafoam'd the tank, added Mystery Oil to the oil, and tried out some cold start spray (ether) on the air filter.
Now I'm noticing some more-than-usual lag in the accelerator. Granted, each one of the pistons are off-time, but this is more than before. Not really a huge issue, as it's serving its purpose, but it's a bit annoying.

What did you do with the starting fluid on the air filter and why do you say that your pistons are "off-time"? If your vehicle is firing out of time, that could account for the hesitation.

And in general, always review tuneup hardware when symptomatic. For yours, that would include fresh Champion copper .035 gapped plugs, new plug wires, distributor cap, rotor, fuel filter.

I'm not sure what you're asking when you ask what I did with the ether on the air filter. The directions said to spray it on the air filter. Heh. I must admit; the Jeep started right up.
Also, it's got new plugs, rotor cap, fuel filter.

Did you spray ether on the air filter because you couldn't get it started? I've used starting fluid, but never sprayed it on the filter, I usually just sprayed a bit into the intake.
As far as the pistons being off time, what exactly did the shop say? Is it slop in the timing gears or what?
