Default command trac front axle engage issues

1989

red line is full vacuum good like its supposed to be

blue line is open not plugged good like its supposed to be

very difficult to get the part time light to come one and sometimes when the light does come on and it is in 4 lo then it works

but not 4 hi

trans case engages great

and the front driveline/shaft always turns when in 4 wheel good

so the case is good and fine no issues with it

but the front axle is having real issues engaging 90% of the time

truck sat parked for 4 years not running until yesterday

what do i need to try or look at ?

also what makes the part time dash light come on or off? what controls it ??

why wont the stupid light turn on most of the time???

i see no electrical anywhere that could run to the dash from anywhere under the truck

ive searched for a long time on the internet and cant find anything relevant to this directly

thanks for anything!!

there is a vacuum switch in the case that controls the front axle, or the actuator in the axle could be bad... One of my friends ended up welding the actuator in his because it would disengage while he was using it

may have to if its bad on this one

in which it probably is

the way it is looking

they sell a cable setup to get rid on the diaphram shift fork. I had that in my MJ and found that it liked to come unlocked at the worst possible times. I ended up swapping the front axle out of an XJ to loose that whole setup. I replaced the fork assembly three times before doing the axle swap.
