Smoke is gone .

Drives great!
No misfire as far as my limited experience is concerned lol.

Here are the oil pressure gauges which seem a bit low based on what i read.
Any thoughts?

Idle

@ 3000 rpm

Thx.

I'm guessing oil pressure is fine (still on the low side tho) based on what i read on FSM.

Oil Pressure
Min. Pressure (600 rpm) . . . . . . 89.6 kPa (13 psi)
At Idle Speed (800 rpm) . . . . . . . . 172 to 241 kPa
(25 to 35 psi)
At 1600 rpm & Higher . . . . . . . . . 255 to 517 kPa
(37 to 75 psi)
Oil Pressure Relief . . . . . . . . . . . 517 kPa (75 psi)

Ya on the low side but ok. Seems like everything is. Sounds like the engine is worn. With proper maintenance from here out you can squeeze some more.miles.

Its a bit low but I would not call that gauge the truth either. If your really worried about it connect an oil pressure gauge where the oil pressure sensor is at and verify your gauge is reading correctly or not. As for the lower compression #'s it could simply be carbon built up on the valves just causing the valves not to seal 100% The good thing is that they are all about the same

Thx again for all the valuable comments.

I think I'll do a compression test on my 00' as well and compare.
Really like to keep the 99' (120k mile) instead.
Would you think is a better decision keeping the 00' ( as fas engine is concerned)?

I have almost 350k miles on my original motor, it's tired and I have to shift out of 5th in a heavy head wind (I plan on a rebuild next spring), so keep the one you like the most. Coach

DIY rebuild?

I like the 99 better (HP d30, C8.25, super clean black w/grey interior) but i'm very concerned about the low compression's numbers.
Did a lot of reading and have not come across anyone with less than 100 psi

Wouldn't hurt to try it warm. The ring end gap will be smaller and it will crank faster.

That is pretty low. I couldn't see all the valves or rings going at once though. Having even compression is more important then the actual reading. Someone would have to thoroughly f that thing up to cause that... I guess you could have a bad block casting.

Agreed that the comparison is what really counts. You're not testing your battery or your starter! Still, I think you will see higher # warm. Since you are on the low end that might be nice.

Plus if she runs good whatcha worried about. Also just remembered this My buddy has a compression gauge always used it broke down bought my own snap on compression gauge
found that my compression gauge read 50 psi more then his. So if your renting a gauge there is no telling what kinda morons have used it and your reading could be flawed

Default Warm engine numbers

Went over to O'reilly and rented another kit.....getting same (close) numbers.

Tested on another XJ (00'), better numbers but still in the 70's only.
I'm guessing i might have screwed up somewhere, maybe didn't screw tight enough .

Here is an update on warm engine (99'),
..... Dry ...Wet
#1.. 72...90
#2.. 78...90
#3.. 75...89
#4.. 81...92
#5.. 81...90
#6.. 90...86

Numbers looks better but still not in the 100's but numbers looks fairly even through out.

What you think?
Is she a keeper?

Thx.
