1992 Cherokee 4x4. Transfer case shifter has 2hi_4P/T_4F/T_N_4Lo. When to use which setting and when. 4Lo I got. Really just use on normal road conditions and snow/slush

 

That's an NP242 transfer case.

2h - normal
4h part time - loose gravel, off road only
4h full time - snowy or really slick rain conditions on the road
N - when being towed
4L - you'll know when you need this

You can shift from 2h to 4h while driving "on the fly". Supposedly up to a certain speed. I recommend shifting only while stopped. If you stay in 4h PT on dry road for long, you'll break your transfer case. To shift into 4L, you should be rolling forward super slow, transmission in neutral, then select 4L. Then put your transmission in gear. You won't be going anywhere fast, but you'll be able to climb trees.
