Considering this xj
A coworker of mine has a 1992 Cherokee limited that he has offered me. He drove it for quite a while has about 160k on it. He parked it a year ago and it has not run since. He said it ran and drove fine when he parked it. He bought a diff jeep and had that as a spare vehicle. The question I have is this. Is it worth the 500$? I kind of figure it is. Even if it takes some work to get drivable. I'm looking for a new DD and I was considering this. I had an 89 limited and that thig had everything in the world wrong with it. Seemed like the technology was pretty new at the time and it was a hassle. Abs acted up idled super high on and off would stall occasionally if you turned a corner. Not sure if they improved between then and 1992. Let me know what you think!

Sounds like a good deal to me. $500 for the Jeep, $100 for a decent battery, another $150 for a tuneup (spark plugs, wires, cap & rotor, fuel filter, fluid change etc). Puts you at around $750 give or take a $100 or so.
Oh, and yes there are some changes between 89 and 92. Your old 89 was a renix, the 92 should be a HO. (little more horsepower) also the 92 likely doesn't have a vacuum actuated front axle. (if this is bad info someone please correct me)

I figured I could scrap it if worse comes to worst and get my $$ back. It's downstate near my tree farm so I will probably pick it up and park it in my barn. Should hopefully only take a little while to get her up to snuff! Plus I can put my new destination at's off my 2000 on it. Just gives me more reason to buy stuff for my 2000!

All I have to do now is convince the wife that we need another jeep. She was skeptical when I chose to park the 2000 and begin its overhaul, she is really going to blow a gasket when I tell her I am buying another jeep of the same style to replace it. Wish me luck.

$500? Unless it's 100% rust definitely go for that lol. Shouldn't be too bad to get going and I think you'll find some aftermarket support for the 92 era better than your 2000. Even for a bush beater, to me it seems there's a lot more replacement parts floating around too.
Nonsense. I'd love to have a fleet of the things. At any rate, a liberal application of RTV should fix that little issue... lol
