Air hammer/chisel to get them out....can't remember how I got them in. I think I got them started with a vice then airhammer. Just remember the driver side one does not go all the way in. I kept trying to drive it further until I realized it had already hit the collar.

Petroleum Vaseline! seriously though. I coated my lowers in that stuff and press them ALL the way by hand. I also installed polyurethane so I don't know if that will make a difference.

Pretty much self explanatory I used torch to burn rubber out sawzall for stress cut then flathead an hammered it out.same on driver side but I had to use the sanding wheel to open the bushing hole just a tiny but aftermarket bushing is a lil thicker sleeve then stock.

drill with hole saw to get the old ones out, then punch the remaining metal ring out.

be creative to get the new ones in. lube and bessy or c-clamps work good.

I built a tool with some 3/8" allthread, long nuts, a piece of pipe, and some washers. On the first try a donut of rubber was left behind, which I torched out then ran a 1-1/2" wire wheel through it to clean it up. I reused the same tool to press in the prothane bushings. I'm doing the passenger side today, replacing the washers with a 1-5/8" steel disk that a friend cut for me. Hopefully that leaves behind less rubber to burn. I'll post pics if I can get the camera in there.

Here are a few shots of punching out the upper control arm bushing, I haven't gotten around to the passenger side axle bushing yet.

First, I punch out the center sleeve...

Then using some 1-1/2" washers welded together, or in this case my custom 3/16" thick by 1-5/8" diameter washer, I punch out the bushing.

Some heat on the control arm helps...

Whats left is a small amount of rubber that can be torched out, then use the wire wheel to clean up. Sorry for the focus...

edit - the reason you want a very thick washer, or several welded together, is that the bushing doesn't always detach evenly, and the allthread will start to bend if the washer doesn't keep it aligned.

Now a question. Has anybody installed the Prothane bushing kit? I don't like the look of this thrust washer, it seems like it could split and fall out.
