Hello,

I just bought my first Jeep.
2000 Jeep Cherokee Sport.
I'm in the process of taking care of the tires and getting an inspection.

Now i hear everyone talking about oils.
I don't know what oil type or weight was used. Now the jeep has 187,000. runs great. Body is straight and minimal rust.

Any ideas?

Rotella 15/40 is about as good as it gets in regards to dino oil...I run it year round here in So Cal so your area may require 5 wt oil...that is for you to determine...rotella has lots of zinc which is what these engines need...synthetics are a little overated and I am not a fan of Amzoil,lucas etc...pretty pricey stuff for not much if any gains in any performance...flame on but I speak the truth

Switching to synthetic on a very well used engine has the potential to cause leaks. I've been using mobile1 since 5k and the engine still looks new at 60k.

This is an outdated way of thinking. Engine seals have been able to tolerate synthetic without the risk of leaking for decades now. I have had numerous vehicles over the years that I bought with well over 100,000 miles and have switched to synthetic on every one them and have never once seen an increase in leaking.

I spent a lot of years working with a local engine builder years ago, and initially I swore by conventional, he swore by synthetic. As time went on, and engines came and went I saw more and more the benefits of running synthetic; I became a believer myself.

Just run 5.50-6 qts of t6 and a good wix or mopar filter

also the other myth stated in here about not being able to switch back that is very false i had a vehicle that depending on how much money i had at time of oil change depended on if it got conv. or syn. and it was a bit of an experiment as well never had any issues...and if your gonna use a good filter and rotella t6 you can run a good 5k-7k oil change interval a guy on here posted about it on here and the oil lab said he could go that high and be safe

i love rotella shop i work in uses it in all the diesels i use rotella t6 in my vw tdi and will be using it in my jeep (may sound weird but rotella smells good)

Speak for yourself. Liquid Wrench rust penetrant smells da best. PB Blaster doesn't taste half bad, either.

I run T6 5w40 WIX 51515 in my 2000 after reading salads "Rotella" post .great info here https://www.cherokeeforum.com/f2/rot...essing-188168/. MY BABY LOVES THE STUFF, oh and my Jeep does also.

$5 mail in rebate on T6 at Wal-Mart till May. Limit 2 rebates per household though.

I live in Alaska..so I have cold winters also..lol Rotella T6 5w40

Salad's talked a lot of people into running Rotella T6, myself included. 5w40, runs awesome with it.
