Again, the issue with any 97+ (approximently) conversion is the swap to a different plug for the auto trans wiring harness. If it exists like others have claimed it wont work.

You having access to both era connectors could visually check for us. A few pics would be cool.

the transmissions will be different already so you might just want to use the xj instead of taking it apart

lookin to do the same, i have an '88 2wd and was just offered a '86 or '89 (hes not sure) for $500, goin to look at it next week. says his works but is trashed inside, mine is great inside. thats why im thinkin of swapin and not just dichin the 2wd. figure i can still come out even by sellin the other when im done. keep the info comin and ill post a build thread when (or if) i do mine.

maybe but you could always switch the trans out but you will have to rig or fashion new trans mounts

explain what your saying by switching the trans out of the 93 and put it in the 2000? will the trans mount to the 2000s motor?

put the xj transmission in the grand, the mounts on the transmission that mount to the body will be different on each trans or at least mine were

I would recomend looking around on craigs list or at junk yards to find a 4x4 that might need some work, than you can take parts off the 2wd and put them on the 4x4 as needed to make a nice ride.
I got my XJ for $500 because it had a bad rear end. I bought a rear end from a junk yard for $150 and this thing is great.

ok so my xj is a 5spd with a 231j tcase.

from what i can tell there is a tab on the left side of the tcase(looking forward) that you have to modify(cut off)

it also looks like my tcase is slightly tilted counter clockwise looking forward

and the front is pretty standard as far as axle. i dont know what front axle was in there before i fixed the ghetto rig'ness. but i went to the junk yard and got another axle from this truck. i dont know what year it was from.btw this was the cleanest xj ive ever seen in the junk yard

everything looks pretty much straight forward. NOTE*- it is a mud/offroad truck. no speedo, 4wd lights, no 4wd shift linkage(im in the process of finding one.),no vacuum for front axle( IMO posi lock works better anyways) and give yourself a few days to work out your kinks. if there is anything else let me know.
