Coolant hose question

Coolant hose question
Earlier today I was replacing my camshaft position sensor on my 98 Cherokee and I had the hood open and realize that my hose that sends the coolant looks like has been squeezed and I opened my radiator cap and the air going into it and it shaped back to normal what does this mean? But a new hose maybe? Can anyone help?

I would replace the hose. As well as flush the system while you are there.
The lack of fluid caused air to fill its place, when driving it the air became hot expanding causeing either more air or even coolant to be displaced. As the motor and coolant cooled it constricted back to its normal size sucking the hose with it. They do make rad hoses with a wire spring in it to stop hose collapse. But you still need to be full of fluid.
I would also after this is all said and done look for leaks to see if the system just wasnt full of it leaked from somewhere.
Thats my .02

I'd change it with the proper NAPA cap anyway, unless the hose is obviously very soft and gone bad. Caps can and do fail regardless of age. (don't get me started on the craptastic quality of most replacement parts these days)
