Coolant problem
Ok so I recently got a 96 Cherokee sport and the check engine light came on. The code was P0118 which was coolant temp high circuit. I don't know how to fix it but I changed my power steering bottle and the light went off. I don't know why it did that because it doesn't have anything to do with the coolant. But so the error code is gone for good I would like to know how to fix it.

I figured that may be the problem so I'm gonna do a full coolant system flush and change my t-stat and sensors at the same time...could there be any more reasons though?

Locating the tempature sensors on a 99 Cherokee
I have experienced sensor problems also. My engin light was tripped this week end, also my dash guage went to zero a few times, as if I was turning off the key. The codes say bad connection or faulty sensor. I searched threads for their locations, some say look on the right rear side of the head, others say look under the intake manifold. Unless Im missreading these posts or it differs on the older years, The only tempature related sensor I could find is on the thermostat gooseneck. I see another that looks like a sensor on the top of the intake?
I unpulgged both and sprayed some electronic tuner cleaner in all the ends and connections. Disconnected the battery and reset the codes.
So far things are back to normal and the cooling fan is kicking on at 210*
I'm expecting to replace them but I want to make sure Im messing with right ones.
1999 4.0 Six, Thankyou in advance

i found one more problem with my system... the motor was swapped to a 98 inline 6 and in 96 theres the sensor in the front of the motor (temp to CPU) and one at the back of the block (for temp gauge)in 98 the temp sensor for the CPU and the sensor for the gauge were built into one... my truck has the 96 harness still in it and the sensor for the gauge has no where to be put in...
can i rig the wire from the temp gauge sensor to the temp sensor its self or is there a way i can put it in the block somewhere?
