yeah they do make another product called metal prep. i just watched this video on those products followed by por-15, he used marine clean as a degreaser after sanding as much rust as possible. washed it off with water. THEN used the prep and ready, and finally por-15. seems like a good and promising way

yeah you can skip the marine clean, and just use degreaser...
I've done a lot of painting in my life and I was impressed with the material, and this would be my choice if I was in your shoes..

yeah you're right diesel, i really dont want to risk wasting money. its already getting in the freezing temperatures here. ive been hoping it would warm up a bit so i can do some work and cover some rusty areas. but if i screw up the curing period id be doing it all over again in the spring and im not about that at all. i just hope the rust doesnt get worse from all the salt and crap this winter. i already have salt dried up all over my jeep
atleast i have an idea of what to do when the time comes!

i will deff try to keep it clean!
btw this guy on youtube did a great experiment where he did 5 different tests on rusted metal. left the metal outside for a year and reviewed them.
as shown in test update video, all the products did a pretty good job. but the por-15 product test (marine ready -> metal read -> por-15) did the best as far as painting right over rust. the apple cider vinegar did an amazing job of completely removing all of the surface rust, then painted over the metal with brush on rustoleum which held up well.
when the time does come, i may use a combination of those two tests. i want to wire brush as much rust off as possible. spray on apple cider vinegar over the course of a day. then use por-15's metal ready product or prep ready (might just skip the marine clean and use any old degreaser) the following day, then apply por-15

yeah i'd hit up a car wash a couple times over the winter. even one of those quick quarter feeders that rip you off, just spend a minute or two blasting the under carriage decently. i just spent 20 minutes at one washing off my undercarriage.
also smeared all my new fresh bolts in grease for the winter, so they don't rust over.
