My 1994 Jeep Cherokee sport 4.0L ran fabulously until a week ago. Topped off the coolant with a little water from a hose and while I may have gotten a few things wet, a splash or so. it won't start. A week later it won't start. It cranks just fine, just won't turn over. If I check for spark and fuel, and both check out OK, what could it possibly be?

I would check fuel first. Make sure you can hear the pump prime. Then check fuel pressure, then check your spark. If that does not do it, you may have a bad cam or crank position sensor. If that doesn't work try a 5 lb sledge or ether, just be careful of the back fire...it's avery quick way to remove arm hair.

As a side, I will say this, this is a prime example of just how finicky jeeps can be.

 

You say you've check fuel and spark and positive have both it's not gonna be the CPS. Check both the engine ground and the main ground of the battery. Check the terminals and put a meter across battery.

I had a very similar problem about 2 months ago. Everything was fine... Until it wasn't! Got caught out at a restaurant in a city 100 miles from home and it wouldn't start. Cranked and everything, just wouldn't start.

after fiddling with stuff for like 20 minutes it magically started (I have no idea why). I almost got all the way home and it died about a half mile from home. Again, it wouldn't start.

All that to say... I had my mechanic change the CPS and it's been fine ever since. I'm with the other guys: I think that's your problem.
