Is it possiable to change the bearings for the crankshaft while it is still in the xj .Will the crankshaft come right out if a majority of the other parts bolted to it are removed? For some reason I'm haveing problems pictureing this. I don't have access to any of my books or anything else right now,and for awhile longer. Thanks guys.

You can pull the main bearing caps and turn the bearings out without removing the crank.

You can replace them without removing the crank from the engine, just have to be really careful not to scratch the crank when removing and installing the bearings. Take your time and use a torque wrench on the main caps.

you can do it without removing the crank its just a pain getting the oil pan back in easy to get it out but hard to get back on. we had to turn the wheels a couple times to wedge it in. but it is possible just make sure the crank isnt tore up, because if your replacing the bearings the cranks probably scuffed up. 189.00 bucks at advance auto parts you can get a new crank with main and rod bearings.

Turn the wheels? Huh? Guess it depends on your lift.
