Yep, you can.
might be sloppy (as crankshaft might need polishin' etc etc), the 4.0 is a damn sturdy platform.....
but yep.
use a honer in the bores if you do.
let us know how you come out if you do!
cheers!

yeah, might wanna replace both valves on # 5, along with keepers, guides, springs, etc.
should be ok. if your daily driver and you want peak action performance blah blah blah, then measure all the internal tolerances and see what your willing to sacrifice to accomplish (as in $$$$$$$).
go get em!

Dixie....you gotta do any mods to the mounting architecture to drop that 4.7 in? just curious? and what tranny/flywheel/clutch torque converter(if auto) are you gonna match up?
i apologize for my ignorance, but can you bore the 242 CID to that displacement? IF you can, HOLY CRAP! you'll be a sleepin MO FO against them ricers (japsters) out there!!!!!!!!!!

Im not boring it at all. honing the cylinders. theyre perfect.
you get the extra cubic inches from the AMC 4.2L crank and then get more from the 4.2L short piston rods.
if you bore the cylinder to 4.000 then you can use chevy 350 pistons and make it a 5.0 but the cylinder walls are to thin for my liking. im not that ballsy.
the head has 40hrs of porting.
the whole set up looks and goes together and drops in like stock.
then im bumping the compression to 10:1 and running it on propane cause its safer cleaner and creates a 30-40% HP gain and around 30-40 MPG too!!
im lookin at 320 hp on the engine running gas then when i do the conversion about 370hp or so...
all drivetrain remains stock though.
btw right now propane is about $1.80 a gallon!!!

MISTER!!!!!!
send me your specs!!! HOLY CRAP!
Prop/LNG wah! serious, 370?
that'll shatter the axle setup! (if you are like me that is! HENH-HENH! He said "shatter" AHENH-HENH).............
that is so friggin cool!
so, what is the down side to the prop/LNG conversion? faster wear on piston/ring-valvetrain combustion portion?
never really thought of it until I was reading your posts.
good god! sleepin giant!!!!
ahahahahahahahhahahahhahahahahahaha i smell evil brewing!
hope you'll disclose parts , mods etc......THATS what I wanna be when I grow up!
cheers!

LMAO
its better to run propane actually. more life out of engine.
only downside is theres more gas stations than propane fills. theres a conversion co that has a us map of fill spots though. im gonna have a spare tank for just in case times.
I dont know why more people dont do this.

the 4.0 is the only late model that they can convert. gotta bypass the computer by installing and old style distributer.
pretty cool stuff.

im using forklift tanks so i can bring 3-4 10 galloin tanks with me for long trips.
and also through my tractor stack it will sound ungodly powerfull.
my stock 4.0 sounds like a 350ci chevy with open headers!
