Crossmember alignment issue
I have been around for a little over a year on this forum and it has helped me tremendously. I am currently putting a 4.5" lift, SYE, KJ rear disc brake conversion, and new steering dampener on my XJ. I've got all the work completed and went to install my transmission crossmember back on the jeep. I've put the drivers side on, the transmission mount on (both loosely secured) and then am trying to get the passenger side on. The problem I am having is that the bolts and holes are not aligning properly. I can get the bolt alignment front to back good but I can't move it toward the drivers side enough to get the bolt in. See the pictures below. Any help on how I could do this would be appreciated.
This is a 97 Jeep Cherokee 4x4.

Worn transmission and/or engine mounts allowing the engine to shift to one side, maybe? Never messed with mine yet, but the crossmember wasnt put on backwards, was it? Thats all i can come up with.

From the picture, it appears that it is oriented correctly (the exhaust gap is under the exhaust as it should be).
You probably need to get your vehicle down on level ground. The frame/body is flexing and getting a bit cockeyed on you. Once its back on level ground, hook up one bolt loosely (one that allows for side to side adjustment) then shift it around to mate with the 4 trans mount bolts, then it usually just takes some muscle to align it on the other side. But there is usually enough leverage to do it by hand.
If you can't get the vehicle back on level ground yet, then at least take a look at how it is jacked up and see if you can't even things out temporarily while you get the cross member back on. Might take some trial and error.
