Just a joke, mind you, but my good buddy used to say the British built cars with the axiom "it's worked for years. Why change it?" This was in reference to MGBs. We both hated Lucas!

Lucas? The inventor of the intermittent wiper? Why would you hate them? You gotta respect their ingenuity and leadership! They hold a number of important patents, including the patent on the short circuit and the self dimming headlight!

Lucas-The Prince of Darkness! I love it! I bought a 70 Ducati 350 Desmo and the motor lasted 15 years, but the paint and electrics sucked!
