Default Cruise Control Add. Vacuum lines/module?

Looking to get the parts to add cruise control to my 00 XJ. I know the deal with the switches needing to be from a 99-01, but I知 confused about the vacuum parts. It seems like about half of the write-ups I read about the subject mention pulling the vacuum lines/vacuum control module. The other half just mention the servo, switches and clockspring. First, I知 not exactly sure what a vacuum control module is. Doesn稚 really return any exact search results. Second, what exactly is it doing in the cruise setup that seems to be inconsequential enough for the CC to work without adding it for some people? Thanks guys.

I am guessing here but thinking vaccum control module and servo are the same thing and what I am calling the actuator,

https://www.ebay.com/itm/Cruise-Cont...4383.l4275.c10

Don't forget the bracket and 3 little screws that it attaches to.
As far as the vacuum lines go they should already be there.
Running along the fender you will see a "T" in it capped off.
The "actuator" should have a short vacuum line with an elbow attached to it.
That short line just connects to the "T".
See the last picture in Post #15.

You will need the proper year switches, the harness in the steering wheel that connects to those switches, and the clockspring.
You will need the actuator with the short vacuum hose, elbow, and the cable going to the throttle body.
Also the bracket and 3 screws mentioned earlier.
If you pull all this yourself you will need a steering wheel puller. Can be rented at most auto parts stores.
You will want to try and make sure the wheels are straight when you pull the clockspring.
So that it is centered. When you remove it secure it so that the 2 halves of the clockspring do not rotate on itself and stays centered.
If you can't do it with the wheels straight there is a recentering for the clockspring.
Before installing in your Jeep. Disconnect the battery and let the Jeep sit for a couple minutes.
Something about capacitors discharging so the air bag does not go off.
When all done start the Jeep from the passenger side to be safe.

This probably one of the most plug and play things that you can add to a Jeep that did not come with it from the factory.

It's a little more complicated than you realize. The vacuum control solenoid is controlled by the PCM and unless it is programmed to control it, it may not work. The PCM monitors vehicle speed and either supplies vacuum to the actuator or vents vacuum to maintain set speed. It also will disconnect cruise if any wheelslip occures, such as ice or hydroplaning.

If you buy a new clockspring, it will come with a peg or ziptie in it to keep it centered, which you remove after it's installed.

Thanks. Awesome info. just so I知 clear, the switches are the only year-specific part needed? I could use a servo from, say, a 93 or something? I may just ebay the parts, I知 a solid hour from any junkyard worth hitting and they haven稚 had any 99-01 XJs with cruise.

That is a good question. Switches yes.
Servo thinking has to be '97 and up.
But I see some Ebay sellers listing them as '91 to '98.

https://www.ebay.com/itm/CRUISE-CONT...oAAOSwH21fTSCE

Another '91 to '96.

https://www.ebay.com/itm/91-92-93-94...sAAOSwAf5fRn7U

Here is just a '97 to '01.

https://www.ebay.com/itm/Jeep-Cherok...oAAOSw1~ZfP~KJ

I am not really familiar enough with '96 and down servos to know for sure.
I think everything besides switches need to be '97 and up.
This is why I am a big on pulling your own parts off the donor Jeep.
You know exactly what you are getting. Also piecing this together of Ebay could be a little expensive and difficult.
You see switches, oh and sometimes guys don't know and list them for '97 to '01 which we pretty much know is wrong, so that
should not be too hard. Servo with the bracket not that big a deal either. Sheet metals screws for that is nothing so....
Clock spring for a Cruise control Jeep again not a big deal.
But you are probably are looking at $140 right there.
Now for the thing I hardly ever see.
The harness for the switches and clockspring. Which I am almost positive I used from the donor.
Is different then the not cruise control one.
I could be wrong though but don't think so.
My point is if I am right that could hang up your whole install.
But there is this one:

https://www.ebay.com/itm/99-01-Jeep-...5.c10#viTabs_0

I want to say you just hit $200 for cruise control.
Boneyard U Pull price? Thinking $100 max.
And even that is kinda high IMO.

yeah you actually linked a few of the parts that I was looking at myself. I know it痴 going to run higher to get them off eBay, but like I said, there are rarely any Cherokees at the yards near me, much less one from the three-year range I need with cruise control and no airbag deployment. Even if all those things lined up, I知 50 miles in either direction from a pick N pull.
