cutting out while driving

Check the ignition coil resistor. It's a white rectangular ceramic block mounted on the inside of the driver side fender.

Again, hate to burst your bubble, but that's not an ignition resistor.

That above is the fuel pump resistor. Yes, similar cridders were used to knock voltage down (a little more), to ignition coils. (but not on our Jeeps)
