D35 or D44

Just to clarify fellas the PO had these parts installed. Thats why I'm asking this stuff so I know to stick with it or move on. The idea of running it till it breaks is a good idea. I do know the PO had done the painted rock challenge with this set-up so it can't be that bad.

Drum Brakes on a 8.25. I got an Ford 8.8 that is going in the four door, it is stronger but needs alot more work to put in I would like a D60 rear and D44 front but money is what stops that. If you want a direct bolt in then you will be alot better going with what Winston427 & 99NCXJ said unless you are lucky and know were to get a D44.
How much for both and then how much for just the front? Were in NC are you at, I got Family in Goldsboro.

I have to say this means you are not wheeling hard. It is all about what you are doing but if you are wheeling hard a 35 will not last. I am getting my 35 out and putting a 9" in. Not going to spend money by having to keep going to the junk yeard and getting shafts, but a 44 or a 8.8 will work well to.

I was just reading on another forum about a guy that wheeled his 35 hard as hell and never broke it
but he wanted to go to a better axle before he broke the d35 cus everyone was telling him it would brake and he was lucky it hadn't broke already
so he installed a D60 than he broke an axle in the d60 first time out

I broke my D35 on my TJ with 33"s and it only had 50,000 miles on it not locked with 3.55 gears. and that was only my second time out with it. I was only doing light trail wheelin?

Regarding mike37's post, I guess the guy should have lived by the saying, "If it ain't broke....".

to the OP. run the rear you have. my best friend has a super 35 kit in his tj and we wheel the snot out of that thing on 35 inch boggers. i would say with 30 spline shafts you are better off with that than a 8.25

Spider gears fell out in pieces when I opened the diff cover.

*shrug*.
44's all the way. other than a set of spider gears, I've not wrecked anything important on a dana 44.
I've got 5 blown dana 35's under my belt...on my "street" comanche with a built buick 3800 v6 in it. of course, close to 300hp will do that to a dana 35 when you use the power instead of babying it.
