Default Dana 30 axle hub nut 36mm

Got a front axle ujoint that sounds like marbles in a beercan. I cant break loose the large axle shaft hub nut. Is it a reverse thread...right to loosen? Instead of normal left to loosen...thanks...2001 if it matters. Ive had it off several years ago but can't remember..

Breaker bar with a floor jack handle for extra leverage.

Regular thread. Don't be scared to give'r some. Get a nice long breaker bar on there. Shouldn't be a problem. Torque spec is 175 ft-lb when reinstalling.

Spray it with Freeze-Off first.

I sprayed it down with kroil...will try again tonight...have been doing some hub research....it appears both Moog and Timken are all made in china now. At least the Moog has a 3 year warranty, Timken only 1.

I bought Timken hubs from Rock Auto a couple of years ago, and they were made in S. Korea. Perhaps it's changed since then.

1/2 inch breaker bar with a cheater pipe (Floor jack handle for example) for extra grip. If you don't feel like sweating, break out the 1/2 inch air impact or if you have a battery powered impact with some power, that would work too.

The older I get, the more I tend to use air or battery powered equipment. Trying to save a bit of wear and tear on the body.

I use a 3/4 drive 1.5" socket on mine. You don't have to worry about breaking tools that way

It wasn't the breakaway torque...I could not keep the wheel/ axle from spinning. I had a LARGE craftsman 36 inch pry bar jammed between the wheel studs and the ground, and it put a 45 deg bend in the bar. It was probably a 3/8 square steel bar...bent like plastic. I ended up using a good quality 1/2 round breaker bar jammed in there...didnt bend...nut came off in seconds, both sides....and yes, regular threads. I super antisiezed the 3 mount bolts at last install. A 1/2 12 pt socket...1/2 drive made easy work of them...fits perfect on the "metric" bolt heads. I could not believe how destroyed the u joints were. . In one direction they moved easy but made the most horrible crunching noise. The other 90 deg flex, i could not bend without 40 or 50 pounds of force. iI think they had 100- 150 K on them but just started making noise this week. Also my steering wheel was shimmying in turns when first started up in the morning. I didnt hear it until i was in the bank drive through enclosure..my wife says .....i heard that racket yesterday, but thought you knew about it....your radio is too loud...all i could say was..yea..thanks

those are a total b***h to handle! when I did mine I jammed a screw driver in the rotor that was long enough to contact the knuckle. I had probably 3 feet of cheater bar I used to break it loose after 3 days of spraying that nut and the bolts on the back of the housing

I just bought one last week and pretty sure it was China. I still got the box in the shop I'll look at it and post when I go down there. I'm pretty sure the ones I bought around 2016 weren't China and may of been South Korea also.

Notice yours is a 513084...for 89-99. Maybe those are still made in N. Korea!
