this is a preference question. whatever you want to do. some do the front first thinking it will pull the xj over obstacles. some rear thinking it will push the xj over obstacles. me personally have seen it done both ways and rear locked before the front has had great success. i did my rear first.

Ok.. so the majority of my wheeling will be mud and mountain trails- not rock climbing.. so I am leaning towards rear first...
