Default Dana 35 outer bearing removal question....

As of right now I do not have time to do everything correctly and I'm sure it'll bite me in the ***, but my question is can I remove the outer pinion bearing without taking the the axle apart. I'm starting to have grinding noise's when I turn left or right from a stop position. I do have lose play when I move the shaft by hand up and down. My plan is jacking it up on stands and taking tires off. Removing the drive shaft then the yoke. Getting the seal off and from what I understand the bearing isn't pressed on and you are able to wiggle it out. Any info is greatly appreciated. I do plan on replacing all bearings on a way later date but need this until then.

In short, NO! The 2 pinion bearings are preloaded with a crush sleeve and need to be replaced together. This should be done before the ring and pinion destroy each other. Doing this repair requires precision and extreme attention to detail. If you don't have a driveline shop nearby, try a heavy truck repair shop. OR swap the axle with a good used one.

Thank you for your input. I will replace both bearings this weekend as I have all the proper tools needed on measurements for correct backlash.

You were correct that the outer bearing slides on/off but the inner one certainly needs a pull/press tool to remove and replace. Don't forget the new crush sleeve too with the new bearings.
