Dana 60 rear full floater?
hey i have a couple questions...First is, the dana 60 is out of a 78 f-250 rear and is being sold for 120 without gears carrier and pinion. Is this a good deal? Second..how do i tell if it is really is a full floater ive heard that is the one people want but how do i tell? Last question..This is the right axle for a dana 60 rear swap into my xj correct? i believe is but just want to double check. Any input is really appreciated thanks

If it has a flange with a circular bolt patter on the outside of the axle shaft (hub as you called it) it's a full floater. 120 bare is kinda pricey, but then again, if you want a Dana 60 built right it's gonna cost money. Just make sure the housing is straight and true.

if it has hubs w bolts then its a floating rear
if it has hubs w the turn/lock/unlock then its a floating front
3/4 and heavier veh use to increase gross axle weight limits

A GM 14 bolt ff is a better axle to swap in and should be cheaper. Look for an 88 or newer it has more webbing and is stronger. The 14bff has a larger center section, but it can be shaved to allow for more clearance.

$120 is steep, you should be able to pick one up at the jy for less than $100 complete. that way you can get one with gears and try to get 4.10's. i agree though, pull a 14ff w/4.10's instead and get a matching 3/4 ton (8lug, beefier housing etc) hp44 from an old ford and you're set. both will have 4.10's.
plus rear 60's in stock form are not awesome. lot's of people break shafts on tires as small as 37's. 14ff shafts are bigger, they have the extra pinion support, the gears are easy to setup etc etc etc
