Dana 60s?
Can someone explain what Dana 60 and Dana 44 are? What there purpose is? Where to get them? How to install?
Sounds like a dumb question to some but I just can't find a straight forward answer.

not trying to be an dick bit if you have to ask your not ready fot 44s or 60s
They are bigger/stonger axles. a Dana 44 is a 1/2 ton truck axle . good bit stronger then the front axle in the cheokees. Good support and good up to a 37in tire with the right parts. the Dana 60 is the big gun so to speak its a 1 ton truck axle. beefy parts that take a lot more abuse. basically start running 35in tires and up.
Installing them. lots and lots of work, welding cutting planning you really need to know what your doing or have an idea on where your going to put a set under your rig.
As far as getting them. junk yard, custom, new from mopar/dynatrack ect

it is a size/strength number that dana uses for their axles.
1/4 ton uses d44 to 1 ton with d60's. big size difference.
you can use any of these combinations in your jeep, you just need to weld on the spring/shock mounts to line up with your jeep mounts to bolt in.

Wow thanks. Your not being a dick I'm new in just trying to understand. Well I wanted to get a lift and larger tires that is why I asked. It won't be for another 9 months because I'm going to Afghanistan in a month but I'm just getting an idea of what I want for when I get back.
Do shops put these on? Or is more of a homebrew type thing?
I'd like to run 35s on my jeep eventually. I have noticed that rubicon lifts seem the best so I'll most likely get that. I would need a 5.5 at least is that correct?

it can be done at home if you have some fabrication tools/skills. i did my first fullwidth swap with an angle grinder and a welder.
it can be done at a shop, but you will pay 5 times the amount as doing it yourself. (worth it, but im too cheap to pay that much)
rubicon's doors are closed as of right now, so i would check out other lift options.
you dont need 5.5 inch lift to clear 35's, but i think that 5.5-6.5 inch with 35's looks proportioned right.....thats my thoughts and what im rockin.

for 35s you dont need to run 44 or 60s the 30 cryco 8.25 combo will handle those for a lot less money
if you have the $$ go with Clayton long arms from the start. great lift great flex. for a set of 60s your looking at about $1000 for the axles then a a lot more to set them up in the rig, gears lockers shafts brakes ect.
As much as I like the stock to stupid approach wheel your rig on the smaller axles first before jumping to tons

A popular swap for the rear axle on XJs is an 8.8" rear from a Ford Explorer. Locally I have seen Dana 44 6-lug Wagoneer front/rear axles on XJs as well.
Jacksonville 4x4 can fab or install just about anything you want if you have the $$$. Be warned, though: They charge an arm and a leg! I was stationed in "Actionville" from 05 - 08. Semper Fi and stay safe!

All work on my jeep will be done in Texas. Not j ville, too expensive here. I just want to get it all done while I'm deployed that way when I get back I can drive my jeep the way I want. I abuse my jeep as stock. Go trailing with friends and not be embarrassed by my stock jeep haha.
